An Injection Pump is the device that pumps fuel into the cylinders of a diesel engine. Traditionally, the injection pump was driven indirectly from the crankshaft by gears, chains or a toothed belt (often the timing belt) that also drives the camshaft. The lift pump is considered a low-pressure, high-volume pump. On the other hand, a high-pressure injection pump is considered a low-volume pump. The latter is needed to increase the pressure of diesel fuel to the level needed for injection.
